In the heights of the Andes the water turns to snow. It changes shape, but it’s still water. Then it changes again and becomes a glacier. Then the lake and the sun seduce the glacier and when it melts, it joins the river. Now it is incredibly beautiful, the bluest blue you’ve ever seen. But, it’s still water.
Water changes shape millions of times. In each of its forms it is splendid, and never stops being water. The waves can be refreshing and comforting. On the other hand, the tsunami is devouring and destructive. Sometimes it falls like rain, giving new life to the earth. Drink from a spring, and it is healing and nourishing, but it can also drown you, stealing your last breath.
As your consciousness expands, you realize that love is all there is, that everything in the universe is a manifestation of this love. Once you recognize this, you see the magic and the wonder of it all. You see love in people’s rage, love in their jealousy, even love in their hatred. No matter what emotions they express, you recognize that it is all just love trying to break through. When we anchor ourselves in love-consciousness, all we see is love, and we know that it is perfect in all its forms.
Suffering does not depend on our surroundings but on our perception. It is a choice that we make in every moment. What are you choosing right now? If you are desperate to get love from the outside world, give it to yourself instead. If you experience anxiety or need in some of your personal relationships, or if you want someone to change so you can feel happy, you need to go inside and love yourself. It is not about changing the outside. As long as we do not take responsibility for our own happiness, as long as we do not realize that we and only we are responsible for our satisfaction, we will remain dissatisfied.
In every moment you have the power to reinvent yourself, you can choose what you want to be. That’s the wonderful thing about being human: we choose, and we can change. We can change to become more love, more freedom, to let go of our limitations, to start living in the moment, and to acquire new habits that do not cause us suffering. True consciousness takes responsibility; It does not perceive the world as something separate from itself, it knows that it is the world.
If I always criticize myself, if I am comparing myself and complaining, if I am not just being the brilliance of who I really am, who is responsible for that? I am. Each one of us is unique and perfect and brilliant, but one has to find that brilliance by polishing one’s facets. The choice is our own, and depends on nobody else.
I choose the greatness of who I am. I cannot be any one else: I can be me, and I’m great. This choice is something incredible, because once you find that, there are no more comparisons, no jealousy, no insecurities: there is only love. Then you can extend that and embrace your world with bliss. You will find joy because you are not comparing yourself; you are just enjoying the variety of your beautiful creation.
