Unification Isha Judd
Not being able to sleep

The day is over. Your mind is not.

You go to bed exhausted and your head keeps sorting out the day. Unification offers you a quieter place inside, so you can truly rest.

This might sound familiar

Signs that it's happening to you

You go to bed exhausted and can't fall asleep

You toss and turn and check the time

You sleep and wake up just as tired

What it's about

Your body stopped and your mind never got the message

You turn off the light and everything inside is still on: what you left unfinished, the afternoon conversation, tomorrow's list. Your body asks for bed and your head keeps working, so demanding sleep from yourself only adds one more task to the night. The practice does not come to rush your sleep: it turns down the volume of what keeps spinning so rest has a way in. Many people say that over time they go to bed without a screen and without tossing and turning, and they wake up feeling they rested.

How Unification supports you

01

You stop for a few minutes before bed

No special posture, no absolute silence.

02

You bring your attention to the body

Where your back rests, how the air comes in.

03

You stop demanding sleep from yourself

And rest finds its way in.

A practice to start with

A few minutes in bed, with no task of falling asleep

This is a first Unification practice. You do it in bed, with your mind still going, and it asks you neither to fall asleep nor to stop thinking:

  1. 1Pick one single thing your mind keeps going over tonight. Just one, whichever comes first.
  2. 2Close your eyes, if you are somewhere safe to do so.
  3. 3Gently bring your attention to the area of your heart.
  4. 4Repeat internally: «Praise love for this moment in its perfection».
  5. 5Stay there for a few moments. If your mind goes back to its own thing, you start again, with no hurry.

Questions

What people ask us most

  • What do I do when I go to bed exhausted and can't fall asleep?

What helps most is not falling asleep faster, it is letting the fight with the night soften: while the night is something to win, the mind stays switched on. When the body stops and the mind keeps going, something simple is usually happening: your head never got the message that the day is over, so it carries on solving, sorting out tomorrow, replaying a conversation. Demanding sleep from yourself adds one more task to that list. Instead you can bring your attention to the body for a few minutes: where your back rests, how the air comes in, how much weight your shoulders carry. It is not a trick for falling asleep fast, and promising you that would not be honest. It is a way of turning down the volume inside so rest has a way in. Many people say the spinning still shows up, but it stops feeling like an emergency, and from there the night becomes easier to live in.

  • Can you rest even if you don't sleep?

Yes, and it is worth separating the two: resting and sleeping are not the same, even though we use the words as synonyms. There are eight hour nights you wake up wrecked from, and short stretches where something inside really lets go. That is why the question that opens this topic is a different one: what if, even without sleeping, you felt that you rested? It is not a play on words. The tiredness that weighs the most does not always come from the hours you missed, it comes from the tension you carried through the day and from the demand you brought into bed. Many people say that when that tension softens, something in the body recovers even with their eyes open. The practice does not promise perfect nights or ask you to stop wanting sleep: it offers a quieter place inside, available at three in the morning too.

  • Does Unification help you sleep better?

It is not aimed at better sleep, it is aimed at something else: at rest being possible, and feeling like rest. The difference matters, because when the goal is sleep, the bed turns into an exam you pass or fail every night, and that pressure keeps you awake more than any worry. Unification is a few minutes a day, no special posture and no absolute silence, and you can do it on the sofa, while travelling or before turning off the light. Over time many people notice something simple: they go to bed with less noise inside, without a screen and without tossing and turning, and if they wake up they settle back without fighting. Some sleep more, some do not, and even so they wake up different. None of this is a cure, and it does not replace seeing a professional when insomnia persists and affects your health. It is a simple tool for coming back to yourself.
